Vincenzo Cardarelli’s birthplace

Corneto-Tarquinia 1887- Rome 1959

The building overlooks a small courtyard separated from the street by a high wall with an access gate topped by a round arch and surrounded by a slightly raised stone frame that highlights the keystone of the arch. Next to the entrance, a marble plaque recalls that V. Cardarelli (Corneto-Tarquinia 1887 – Rome 1959) was born in that house on 1st May, 1887. A poet, essayist, and prose writer, together with Riccardo Bacchelli, E. Cecchi, and other intellectuals active in Rome in the 1920s, he founded the magazine La Ronda (1919-23). He is mainly known for his poems and autobiographical notes, particularly about his numerous journeys.
