Tomb of the Warrior
Dated: late 6th century BC.
It was discovered in 1961. On the gable of the wall at the back, two roosters can be seen fighting each other between two panthers. The main scene represents two couples lying on the klinai (a type of ancient furniture used by ancient Greeks and Romans) accompanied by musicians and young maids. On the side walls, scenes of funeral games are depicted, with a discus thrower, two boxers, a musician playing an aulos (a type of double-reed flute) and accompanying the dance of a warrior (hence the name of the tomb), a biga (a two-horsed chariot), a small naked acrobat, a feline and a small horseman. The central beam of the ceiling (called columen) is painted with four red stripes. The sloped sides, on the other hand, are decorated with small red circles and flowers.
