Tomb of the Flogging
late 6th century BC.
Discovered in 1960, it consists of a single quadrangular chamber with a double-sloped ceiling. In the centre of the walls are painted doors. On the sides of the doors there is an alternation between scenes of musicians and dancers and erotic scenes, each with a woman and two komasts (participants in a ritualistic drunken procession called komos). In one scene, a woman is flogged by a komast and the tomb is named after this scene.
