Fountains, washhouses, and drinking troughs

Old Town

Fountains, washhouses, and drinking troughs

In the early 20th century, the municipal administration undertook a rehabilitation project (1902, C. Crispini; from 1912 P. Magnani) to address the issue of inadequate water and sewerage networks in the town.
As part of this project, two drinking troughs and washhouses (1902-04) were constructed and remain noteworthy works. The larger one, now destroyed, had a rectangular shape with stone and masonry pillars. The outer face of the trough was made of peperino stone and it was located near the St. Antonio belvedere. The second, smaller one was enlarged in 1929 and was situated in Piazza S. Stefano. It was originally plastered with a light-coloured stucco and had a jet of water that falls into a cast-iron bowl in the centre of a niche and then pours into the trough below. Unfortunately, the lion protome from which the jet of water came off has been lost.
The third drinking trough in Via Montana was built between 1909-1910 but was also destroyed.

Fountain and washhouse

1902 – 1904

The only remaining fountain in the village was constructed as part of an urban renewal project between 1902 and 1904
It is located adjacent to the public washhouse and was expanded in 1929.
