Convent and Cloister of San Marco
founded in the 13th century
Founded in the 13th century (restored 17th century) by the Augustinian Order in the terziere of Castro Novo and adjacent to the city walls, it consists of a church, sacristy, bell tower and two cloisters. The complex houses the “E. Sacconi” middle school and the “G. Setaccioli” municipal band music school. The rectangular chapter house, with a barrel vault decorated with a fresco depicting the Crucifixion and Saints, has been restored and houses the city’s Tourism Office. The church, renovated in the 19th and early 20th centuries, was used as a granary and later as a cinema hall. Today, after further renovations, it houses the municipal theatre dedicated to the actress Rossella Falk who was from Tarquinia.
