Church of St. Martino

Old Town

Church of St. Martino

This church is believed to be the oldest in the town.
Its architectural layout is Romanesque, but over time it has undergone numerous modifications, resulting in a blend of various stylistic influences. For example, the Pisan influence is evident in the bichromatic frame of the facade and the circular window in the tympanum, while the raised sixth reflects the southern, Arab influence, and the small arches of the main apse and series of small arches on the façade are characteristic of the northern influence. These interventions have altered both the interior and exterior appearance of the church.
The interior of the church features three naves separated by pairs of pillars. Along the left aisle, visitors can observe the remnants of a 15th-century fresco depicting St. Anne and the Virgin and Child.
